Cody Pierce and Pedram Amini recently burned some cycles analyzing and infiltrating the Kraken botnet. The results of their research are published across two blog entries. "Kraken Botnet Obervations" provides a high level overview and dives into various statistics that were collected during analysis. "Owning Kraken" details a highly technical walkthrough dissection of the Kraken protocol and custom encryption routines and how through reverse engineering an emulating Kraken server was created that can be used to over take infected systems.
