This week the Zero Day Initiative has reached an impressive milestone of 125 advisories published thus far in 2010. This is impressive because 2009 saw a total of 101 advisories and we have surpassed that already, only halfway through the year. After 5 years the Zero Day Initiative has seen amazing growth both in terms of researcher participation and vulnerabilities acquired, and therefore vulnerability disclosure.
That all being said, this isn't a numbers game for TippingPoint's DVLabs and the primary goal of the ZDI is to acquire the most critical of vulnerabilities that we feel truly pose the greatest risk. It is the goal of DVLabs to research, discover, and acquire the best vulnerabilities in terms of importance to our customers and the industry, severity, and likelihood of exploitation in the real world. Thus quality, not quantity is the focus of the ZDI program and in looking at the vulnerabilities disclosed thus far in 2010 the average CVSS score is 9.9. The ZDI program and the dedication of the DVLabs team not only enables our products and protects our customers, but provides a trustworthy program for security researchers worldwide to submit vulnerabilities through. 2010 is shaping up to be both a ground breaking and record setting year for the ZDI program.
I'd like to thank our fantastic community of researchers for working with us through responsible disclosure and continuing to move the ball forward in regards to vulnerability research and discovery.
